Ending California’s complicity in new oil drilling in the Amazon
As a major consumer of Amazonian oil, the state of California plays an outsized role in the destruction of this sacred rainforest. 66% of the oil exported from the Amazon rainforest goes to the United States, with the lion’s share (50%) of global Amazon oil exports going to California. On average, 1 in 9 gallons pumped in California is derived from the Amazon. Everything from airports to delivery trucks, and gas stations run on Amazonian crude oil. But the price of powering the “Golden State” is high – and Indigenous communities halfway across the world are footing the bill. The Amazon rainforest is on the edge of its tipping point and unless we secure ambitious protection for it, we could soon be seeing the rainforest transform into a savannah. We need to step up the pressure on the Californian government to live up to its progressive values and reputation by committing to end complicity in new drilling in the Amazon and wind down oil imports from this critical region.

Stand4Earth calls on the citizens of California, environmental activists, and conscientious global citizens to join us in our mission to end California's complicity in new oil drilling in the Amazon. Our campaign seeks to pressure the Californian government to align with its progressive values and reputation by committing to the following actions:
- Halt New Oil Drilling: We demand an immediate moratorium on new oil drilling projects in the Amazon. The rainforest's preservation is a global imperative, and California must take a leadership role in protecting this vital ecosystem.
- Reduce Oil Imports: We urge California to significantly reduce its oil imports from the Amazon region. By decreasing its reliance on Amazonian crude oil, California can send a powerful message that it values both environmental sustainability and the well-being of Indigenous communities.
- Invest in Sustainable Alternatives: It is time for California to lead the way in transitioning to sustainable energy sources. We call on the state to invest in renewable energy, electric transportation, and other eco-friendly initiatives to reduce its dependency on fossil fuels.
